India Strengthens Global Standing in Pharmaceutical Quality Standards at World Pharmacopoeias Meet in Brasília
India reaffirmed its leadership in global pharmaceutical quality standards at the 16th World Pharmacopoeias Meeting in Brasília. The Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission highlighted modernisation efforts, harmonisation initiatives, and contributions to international medicine standards across critical therapeutic areas.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. V. Kalaiselvan highlighted significant advancements in the Indian Pharmacopoeia, including ongoing modernisation initiatives and India’s active contributions toward the global harmonisation of medicine quality standards. The discussions during the meeting reaffirmed that Indian Pharmacopoeia standards are comparable with those of leading international pharmacopoeias.
India also received recognition for its leadership in formulating quality standards for anti-tuberculosis and anti-cancer medicines, blood and blood products, medicines used in anaemia management, and other complex pharmaceutical formulations.
The Indian delegation actively participated in deliberations on modern microbiological methods, pharmacopoeial convergence, and environmental sustainability. Their engagement further strengthened international collaboration and reinforced India’s expanding role in shaping global pharmaceutical quality frameworks.
The participation of India at the international forum marks a significant step in consolidating its position as a key contributor to the development and harmonisation of global pharmaceutical standards.
